Coaching Info

Coaches & Volunteers, thank you so much for volunteering your time for the youth hockey players in KC and surrounding areas. The 2018-2019 season is approaching fast. Please read through the following information carefully and follow the steps below.

COACHES: USA Hockey requires all coaches complete the following BEFORE coaching or having any access to kids on-ice or off-ice.
-Get yearly Membership with USA Hockey
-Submit USAH # to your local club by registering with them
-Consent to Screen (new process this season, you will be emailed a link to submit consent, see below)
-SafeSport Module (required every 2 years)
-Age Specific Module of the division coaching

VOLUNTEERS: USA Hockey requires all volunteers, team managers, locker room monitors, team drivers, chaperones, board members, club leadership, and anyone having routine access to kids to complete the following BEFORE having any access to kids on-ice or off-ice.

Coaching Clinic Information

Coaches Education general rule: Coaches start with Level 1 and advance one level each year unless you are coaching 8U in which you can stay at Level 1 until you advance to 10U Squirts.

Level 1 & 2 coaching clinic will be Saturday September 8, 2018 in Independence, Mo. Check-in @9am.

Level 3 coaching clinic will be Sunday September 9, 2018 in Independence, Mo. Check-in @9am.

Level 1 coaching clinic Saturday Sept 22, 2018 in Wichita, KS.

Level 2 coaching clinic Saturday Sept 29, 2018 in Wichita, KS.

Level 4 clinic November 17-18, 2018 in Sioux Falls, SD.

Must pre-register online using the following link.  Bring skates, stick, gloves, helmet to clinic. There will be an on-ice portion.

Coaching Requirements for 2018-2019 Season

1. Register with USA Hockey

Register online with USA Hockey, must be done each year. The cost is $50. Check that you are playing in Kansas, Midwest Amateur Hockey Association (not Missouri Hockey).

2. Submit your USA Hockey Membership # to KCYHA

Please submit your USA Hockey membership # to us electronically by filling out the following registration.

3. Consent to Screen/Background Check

All Coaches, Team Managers, Volunteers, and Locker Room Monitors must consent to be screened BEFORE coaching on-ice or off-ice activities. Important: After you register yourself as a coach with KCYHA, you will receive an email in a few days from Verified Volunteers that will contain a link for you to submit consent.  If you were screened last season you will not receive an email.

4. Online SafeSport Training

Each coach, team manager, volunteer & locker room monitor must have current SafeSport training and must be completed PRIOR to coaching on-ice or off-ice.

This is an online module that takes about two hours to complete. Must be completed before participating in any on-ice or off-ice events, it's good for two seasons.

5. Age Specific Modules

USA Hockey requires that coaches take an online course specific for the age of players you will be coaching. You only have to take each age module once. This module needs to be completed BEFORE coaching or any contact with players on-ice or off-ice.

6. USA Hockey Coaching Certification Class Level 1, 2, 3, 4

A coach must progress through the education system every year.  All coaches must have proper CEP certification by December 31st each season. Even though December 31st is the deadline, its IMPORTANT to note that there's usually only one class held locally in the KC area in early fall.

The expiration of your certification depends on the level you have achieved. Make sure you check your certification status if unsure.  New coaches start with Level 1 and advance one level each year unless you are coaching U8, you can stay at Level 1 until you advance to Squirts.
