2020-2021 Coaching and Volunteer Information

USA Hockey Offering Virtual Training for Coaching Education Program and Introduction of Temporary Card allowing for flexible option during COVID-19

Please read through the below information carefully as the process has changed this season.

USA Hockey will conduct its Level 1-4 coaching certification clinics virtually until it is deemed safe to host large group gatherings. In addition, a new temporary card is being introduced as a flexible option for coaches to maintain their certification if they are unable to attend virtual coaching clinics due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Virtual clinics include 30-50 coaches at a time. Coaches can find scheduled clinics here and registration information here.

The temporary card will allow each coach to have the proper level of certification for the 2020-21 season without attending a clinic. The temporary card applies to coaching levels 1-4 and will be offered through June 30, 2020. The temporary card application deadline has been extended to July 31, 2020. The temporary card application deadline has been extended to Dec 31, 2020.

Click here to register for the temporary card online or download the form that can be completed and submitted to the USA Hockey national office. The cost for the temporary card is $50. All coaches who sign up for the temporary card will be able to participate in any virtual or in-person USA Hockey coaching clinic this season if their circumstances change for no additional charge.

Coaches who receive a temporary card will still need to complete the other certification requirements including SafeSport Module, Age Specific Module and Background Check if needed.

SafeSport Training and Background Check need to be completed PRIOR to the start of the season and BEFORE you have any on-ice or off-ice contact with players!

SafeSport Training - ALL COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE SAFESPORT CORE OR REFRESHER TRAINING THIS SEASON!! SafeSport needs to be complete before participating in any on-ice or off-ice activities.  SafeSport Core and Refresher training are each valid for one (1) season beginning on 4/1/20.  Once you have completed the Core SafeSport Course, there will be a Refresher Course available for individuals who have previously completed the Core SafeSport Course and need to re-certify.  This is an online course, see link below. There is no cost for this training and it's available online. Click HERE for link to SafeSport Training.

Important Background Check Note:  PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT your background check on the USA Hockey website until the KCYHA Registrar, President, or Coaching Director tells you to. Failure to contact your Registrar or Coaching Director prior to Background Check may result in a $30 cost to you.  If you were screened after April 1, 2019, for the 2019-2020 season, that screen will be valid for the 2020-21 season and you will not need to be screened until prior to the 2021-22 season. If your screen was prior to April 1, 2019 you will need to be screened under the new system in order to participate in the upcoming 2020-21 season. All new screens submitted through the new NCSI national screening program after April 1, 2020 will be valid for two years.
