KC Stars Shine in St. Louis
Traveling for the first time as an organization, the KC Stars five travel teams went a collective 14-6-2 at the Warrior Ice Breaker Tournament in St. Louis.
J.F. Quintin’s Pee Wee AA team went 5-0 on its way to capturing the division championship, including two shut out wins (1-0 and 5-0) over the Affton Central States Team. Tom Tilley’s Pee Wee A team won 3 and lost 1 before losing a thrilling championship game to the Mid Missouri Tigers, 4-3.
The Squirt AA team coached by Matt Buss was an impressive 2-1-1 in a tough Squirt AA division with ten teams from all over the U.S. The Squirt A team guided by Pete Runkel and Joe Bourne rebounded from an opening loss to show steady improvement over the weekend going 2-1-1.
The Bantam AA team under Brandon Schultz went 2-2 on the weekend, featuring a huge 3-2 upset win over the heavily favored Nashville Jr. Predators before falling in overtime to the Affton Americans in the semi-final game.
Hockey Director Tom Tilley commented on the weekend, “Coming into this season, one of our goals was to travel as an organization to as many tournaments as possible. This weekend was a great opportunity for our Stars families to build camaraderie and team spirit. I am also very proud of all of our players and their success on the ice.”
