USA Hockey requires hockey helmets for all youth coaches. As such, the KC Stars require all coaches to wear a hockey helmet while on the ice with the players. This policy applies to all coaches, including:
The Mid-West Amateur Hockey Association (USA Hockey governing affiliate) will impose a $500 fine on any association not complying with the helmet requirement. If the Stars association is fined, the offending coach will be responsible for reimbursing the Stars for the fine before being allowed to coach again.
First Violation: The coach will be notified and will be required to obtain and wear a helmet in the future.
Second Violation: The coach will be notified and will be required to obtain and wear a helmet and pay a $20 reinstatement fee.
Third or Subsequent Violation: The coach will be suspended. The Board and the Director of Hockey will be notified. The coach may only be reinstated upon approval of the Board and the Director of Hockey and payment of a reinstatement fee of up to $100.
The Stars will purchase two helmets to be kept in the office at Pepsi Ice Midwest in case a coach forgets a helmet. The helmets will be prominently marked as property of the Stars and must be returned by the coach.
All reinstatement fees will be paid to the Scott Trowbridge Scholarship Fund.
