Scott Trowbridge Scholarship Fund
In April 2006, Kansas City lost a very dedicated hockey coach and youth leader. Scott Trowbridge passed away at the age of 45 due to complications of cancer. In recognition of Scott, a scholarship fund has been established by the Kansas City Amateur Hockey League Foundation. The purpose of the fund is to encourage youth participation in hockey, both inline and ice, by providing financial assistance through scholarships to those who may not otherwise be able to afford to play hockey. Both individuals and corporations are invited to contribute to this fund to help continue Scott’s legacy and make a positive impact on the youth of our community.
Who was Scott Trowbridge?
Scott Trowbridge was a highly successful volunteer coach of youth ice hockey and roller hockey for many years in the Missouri and Kansas area. He developed a love for the game of hockey while playing youth and high school hockey in Waterloo, Iowa.  Right out of high school, Scott served as an assistant coach on his brother's team that won the state championship.  He returned to coaching in part to coach his young sons in both inline and ice hockey.  He went on to coach house, travel and high school inline and ice hockey in the Kansas City metro area for approximately one decade and usually coached more than one team each season.  Battling cancer, Scott coached for the last time, one month before his death in 2006 at the age of 45.  His knowledge and love for the game will live on in the players he coached.

Coach Trowbridge had a desire to develop individual skills while facilitating teamwork.  He had a huge capacity to see strengths in each one of his players and the wisdom to place them in situations or roles in which they would be successful individually and an asset to their team.  Scott had an intense passion for teaching players the way the game ought to be played balanced by true compassion for each individual on and off the ice.  He was extremely generous and would often provide equipment to young players when he noticed their skates didn't fit or something wasn't working quite right.  It didn't matter whether Coach Trowbridge was coaching a nationally ranked inline team or a group of new ice players. He devoted his time and attention to each player.  He loved to see players apply in a game what he had taught them in practice and spent hours adjusting his practices to fit their level and needs.  Not only did players and parents request Scott as a coach, he was also respected by his peers and officials throughout the region.  These characteristics are what made him so special as a coach.  He truly represented all that is good in youth hockey.  Plus, Scott Trowbridge was just an awesome man, husband, father and friend.

In order to continue the legacy of Coach Trowbridge and to allow players to participate that might financially be limited, the Scott Trowbridge Scholarship Fund was created.
